On a personal note, Habib Sy, former head of the PDS and minister under Abdoulaye Wade, sends his best wishes to the man he considers his mentor, wishing him a happy birthday and praying that he may be granted a long and healthy life.

He did, however, express slight regret regarding the scale of the celebrations for the centenary of the former Senegalese president (2000-2012), telling L'Observateur that he would have liked the event to "take on a larger dimension, befitting the man being celebrated."

In his eyes, Me Abdoulaye Wade goes far beyond the framework of the PDS and official circles alone because, as he strongly emphasizes in the columns of the daily newspaper: "Wade is much more than that".
