Code électoral : Mamadou Mory Diaw demande le report de la séance et interpelle le gouvernement
Tensions surrounding proposed law no. 11/2026 amending the Electoral Code remain high in the National Assembly this Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Political leader Mamadou Mory Diaw called for the suspension of parliamentary proceedings, addressing himself directly to the minister in charge of the matter, Bamba Cissé.
Speaking in a context already marked by strong disagreements between the majority and the opposition, Mamadou Mory Diaw suggested that the current session should be postponed. According to him, the political and institutional conditions did not allow for a calm examination of the text.
He thus invited the minister to "postpone the plenary session," believing that continuing the debates under the current conditions risked exacerbating tensions surrounding the electoral reform. Beyond the request for postponement, Mamadou Mory Diaw expressed serious reservations about the trajectory of the legislation. He questioned the legal and political soundness of the reform, raising concerns about the potential for future challenges within the institutional framework.
In his view, the question of the text's conformity with the constitutional framework remains open, which, in his opinion, justifies a pause in the legislative process. This intervention comes in a context already marked by heated exchanges between members of parliament regarding the Electoral Code, pitting those in favor of swift adoption against political actors calling for greater consultation.
