Comité de pilotage du Pacte national de stabilité sociale et de croissance inclusive : Ousmane Sonko annonce une baisse de l’électricité et de l’essence

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko chaired the installation ceremony of the Steering Committee of the National Pact for Social Stability and Inclusive Growth on Monday. This was an opportunity for him to announce several measures with a significant social impact, including the upcoming reduction in the price of electricity and petroleum products, on the instructions of the Head of State.

"We are directing the budget towards addressing the social concerns of Senegalese people, despite the difficulties," declared the head of government. He emphasized that his team has carried out "rigorous budgetary arbitration" in order to create room for maneuver. "Some people think we are taxing the Senegalese people. But the taxes don't go into our pockets," he said. He then emphasized the need to strengthen the country's economic independence.

For Ousmane Sonko, Senegal must no longer rely exclusively on external financing for the implementation of its structural projects. "Our flagship projects must not depend solely on domestic financing. A small shock can cause a breakdown in financing and the halting of construction. A country that wants to be sovereign must hold the bulk of its economy: the gas sector, agricultural hubs, airport infrastructure, major water transfers, energy, among others," he says.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his desire to move forward with major projects, "with state funds or, failing that, with the support of the national and international private sector."

On the social front, Ousmane Sonko indicated that at least thirty public health establishments will be included in the 2026 budget, as well as significant investments in education, higher education, and social housing, with a provisional credit of 20 billion CFA francs. "We are not waiting to be asked, because we know why we were elected," he concluded.
