Fonds politiques : Sonko explique pourquoi ils ne sont pas encore supprimés
Ousmane Sonko responded this Saturday to those who reminded them of their promise to "eliminate" political funds. "Let anyone who is brave go and say on TV that Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has 9 billion in political funds. They will never do it," the Prime Minister declared.
Speaking at his "Tera meeting" this Saturday, the Prime Minister conceded that they had indeed committed to dissolving these funds. However, he emphasized what they had promised in the platform of candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye for the 2024 presidential election.
"We said that we would eliminate so-called political funds and replace them with special funds voted on by the Assembly for ultra-sensitive operations. We said that we would subject the special funds to specific controls and ex post by a subcommittee composed of sworn members," he recalled.
The head of government stated that not all reforms could be implemented in the first year of his term. "That's why we included deadlines in candidate Diomaye's program," he said. He assured that the reforms would be effective within the first three years of his term.
“Are we beyond the first three years of the mandate?” the prime minister asked. He announced, however, that he had established a committee on the matter, after discussing it with President Diomaye. “We will do what is necessary, and the bills will be tabled on time,” he said.
