Hémicycle : Ousmane Sonko dresse le bilan de son passage à la Primature et théorise la rupture
On the occasion of his installation as President of the National Assembly on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Ousmane Sonko spoke at length about his time at the head of the government, presenting an assessment that he describes as one of a profound political and institutional break.
In a speech resembling a political plea, the former Prime Minister claimed to have undertaken, during his tenure at the Prime Minister's office, a series of major reforms aimed at restoring transparency in public management, strengthening Senegal's economic sovereignty, and moralizing public life.
"Just a few days ago, I was at the head of the government. My record there is very precise," Ousmane Sonko told the deputies.
Among the main points put forward, the Pastef leader cited "transparency on hidden realities", the renegotiation of certain contracts deemed contrary to the strategic interests of Senegal, as well as the scrupulous respect for commitments made to citizens.
The former head of government also emphasized economic and social reforms.
undertaken under his leadership. He notably mentioned economic regulation laws, the restructuring of struggling sectors, the control of the cost of living and the efforts made to preserve the purchasing power of Senegalese people in a tense international context.
In terms of governance, Ousmane Sonko advocates a strict policy of moralizing public life. He claims to have placed at the heart of his actions the fight against corruption, the reduction of state spending, the regulation of the management of public funds, and the demand for accountability.
"Moralizing public life, particularly with regard to funds, corruption, the state's lifestyle and reforms," he insisted.
The now-president of the National Assembly also listed several sensitive issues handled during his time at Avenue Roume, citing as examples flood management, monitoring of agricultural campaigns and the recovery of struggling national companies.
On a societal level, Ousmane Sonko highlighted what he considers to be "the protection of the fundamental values of society", mentioning in passing the debates around legislation against homosexuality, a subject regularly brought up by a fringe of his majority.
In his speech, he finally stated that he had greatly contributed to "easing social tensions" and redefining Senegal's development model, in perfect alignment with the major strategic directions of the National Transformation Agenda "Senegal 2050".
Through this feedback, the Pastef leader is clearly seeking to frame his time at the Prime Minister's office within a logic of structural transformation of the State, while consolidating his political positioning at the very moment he takes control of legislative power.
