Le FDR fustige la gouvernance de PASTEF et dénonce une dérive autoritaire

The Front for the Defense of the Republic (FDR) reacted strongly on Sunday to what it calls the "ridiculous and authoritarian drift" of the PASTEF regime. In a public statement, the opposition coalition accuses the government of trampling on institutions, manipulating public opinion, and becoming mired in what it considers "populist and incompetent" governance.

According to the FDR, the current government "has managed the feat of setting the Senegalese economy back three decades," citing policies reminiscent of "the era of structural adjustments and debt restructurings of the 1990s." The front believes that the current economic difficulties do not stem from a supposed "hidden debt," but from a clear inability to govern.

A controversial meeting of the Prime Minister

The FDR also addressed the rally organized by PASTEF on Saturday, November 8, which it described as a "political and financial failure." Despite "hundreds of buses transported across the country," the turnout remained low. The organization particularly deplored "a waste of public resources," arguing that "the enormous budget for this rally could have been used for more beneficial purposes in the context of the national crisis."

But what is causing the most outrage is the Prime Minister's stance during this demonstration. "By trampling on the Constitution and republican institutions, he openly attacked the opposition, the presidency, the judiciary, and even his own government," denounces the FDR.

The organization considers the "abject attack against magistrates" to be particularly serious, viewing it as "a direct attack on the fundamental principles of the separation of powers and the independence of the judiciary."

Repression of the national Ñaxtu: the FDR denounces a slide towards authoritarianism

In parallel with this meeting, the authorities banned a rally organized by the Ñaxtu national movement, supported by the FDR. The demonstration, which was scheduled for the same day, was dispersed by the police. The FDR denounced this as "a violent and shameful repression in Senegal," reiterating that "freedom of expression and assembly are guaranteed by the Constitution."

The opposition movement asserts that these acts of "muzzling" will only strengthen its resolve. "This repressive regime must understand that every abuse only reignites our fight to defend the Republic," the statement warns.

A call for national mobilization

Building on the success of the "People's March" of October 31st, the FDR calls on Senegalese citizens to continue mobilizing for "national salvation." The front reaffirms its platform of demands, centered on defending purchasing power, civil liberties, and social justice.

Among the priorities listed are the cancellation of new tax levies deemed "aggressive" against the middle and lower classes; the maintenance of subsidies on energy and basic foodstuffs; the immediate payment of family security grants; compensation for flood victims; respect for agreements with trade unions and a serious youth employment policy; the end of persecution against journalists and opponents and the release of political prisoners.

In conclusion, the FDR Leaders' Conference invites citizens to remain mobilized around these objectives and to defend "the Republic, the Constitution and the threatened democratic freedoms".
