Moustapha Ba
Minister Moustapha Ndieck Sarré is under fire following an unfortunate statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of former Finance Minister Moustapha Ba. Chairing a Patriotic Youth (JPS) event in Mbao last weekend, the government spokesperson declared peremptorily:
"They lied about the figures, they lied to the Senegalese people and their partners. During his meeting with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, Moustapha Ba revealed to them that the figures were not accurate. We must clarify the circumstances of his death, because he was killed in unclear circumstances."
A release widely reported by the press and which caused a huge outcry.
Attempting to seize the opportunity in a post on his Facebook page, Mr. Sarré speaks of "statements taken out of context." "When you lack arguments, you create controversies. After plunging the country into a catastrophic economic situation, the champions of figure-blurring and diversion are now trying to exist in ways other than by owning up to their record," he immediately charges.
The government spokesperson continued his argument by providing context: "This weekend, I proudly launched the activities of the Daaray Cheikh Anta Diop Party School in Mbao, for committed activism and in the service of development. But instead of debating the real issues that concern the Senegalese, some prefer to manipulate statements taken out of context."
"Let's be clear," he said, "like any citizen, I have the right to question the key facts of our current events, without making any assertions." "Those who want to create a diversion to avoid in-depth debates on governance and the future of the country are tiring themselves in vain. While they argue, we are moving forward, determined to build a new Senegal, based on truth, rigor, and development for all," added Mr. Sarré.
