Parlement de la CEDEAO : Le réquisitoire sans concession de Guy Marius Sagna
MP Guy Marius Sagna made his mark on the ECOWAS parliamentary sessions this week. True to his reputation as a "people's MP," he delivered an incisive analysis of the crises affecting the sub-region, highlighting structural weaknesses and a lack of solidarity among member states.
Energy and sovereignty
Addressing the Ivorian delegation directly, Guy Marius Sagna raised the issue of recurring energy crises. Recalling the episodes of 2021, 2024, and the current situation in 2026, he demanded complete transparency regarding the causes of these electricity shortages. According to the parliamentarian, these energy failures are not merely technical but symptomatic of a need to strengthen infrastructural sovereignty within the regional community.
"If Mali burns, we will all burn."
The most solemn moment of his speech focused on security in the Sahel. Guy Marius Sagna condemned the relative indifference to the terrorist attacks plaguing Mali. He reiterated that the borders inherited from colonization will not protect neighboring countries if the Malian situation is not stabilized.
"The stability of Ivory Coast, Guinea or Senegal depends on that of Mali. If we let Mali collapse, the entire ECOWAS structure will collapse by domino effect," he stressed to his peers.
Solidarity in the face of xenophobia
The Senegalese MP also offered unwavering support to Ghana's initiative, which recently protested against xenophobic violence in South Africa. He urged all ECOWAS countries to stand together, recalling with bitterness that West Africa had been a bulwark for South Africa during the dark days of Apartheid, and that it now deserves respect and protection for its citizens.
