Prévention des inondations : Sonko donne des instructions interministérielles avant le 15 juin
During Wednesday's cabinet meeting, the head of government "encouraged the preparatory work undertaken by the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, as well as other state services." This work includes, in particular, clearing the drainage networks, inspecting drainage structures, pre-positioning pumps, and developing emergency plans.
"Recalling the interministerial nature of flood prevention, the Prime Minister has committed all State services to act in perfect synergy, under the coordination of the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, with the support of the Minister of the Interior for aspects relating to civil protection and crisis management," the statement reads.
Specific instructions have been sent to the relevant ministers to take the appropriate measures. Ousmane Sonko also called for the immediate implementation of several measures. "He requested the immediate implementation of certain measures such as updating and validating all municipal emergency plans, verifying the operational readiness of early warning systems and communication channels with the public, pre-positioning intervention resources, and organizing an inter-ministerial simulation exercise before June 15, 2026," it was stated.
