Proposition de loi de Pastef : Les non-inscrits décident de ne pas introduire de recours
In the National Assembly, following the adoption of the bill introduced by PASTEF deputies, amending Articles L29 and L30 of the Electoral Code, the independent deputies decided not to file an appeal. Amadou Ba, Birima Mangara, Anta Babacar Ngom, Thierno Alassane Sall, and others cited "constraints beyond their control." But, in reality, they seem to be passing the buck to the Head of State.
Indeed, taking note of the statements of the President of the Republic, who plans to present a draft reform of the Electoral Code to the Assembly soon, the non-affiliated members declare that this announcement, "in apparent contradiction with the parliamentary process underway, reveals an institutional and political cacophony in which they refuse to engage."
Therefore, they consider that "the ultimate responsibility lies with the Head of State, both with regard to the promulgation of the proposed law and the announced initiative for a comprehensive reform."
The signatories of the declaration say they are awaiting the presentation of this project announced by the Head of State and hope that it will be inclusive, consensual, and in accordance with democratic standards. For them, the Pastef parliamentary group "seems more engaged in internal political positioning and electoral ambitions than in the calm construction of a credible legal framework." They therefore refuse to be associated with it.
Independent members of parliament declare that the Pastef parliamentary group's bill is "politically suspect and legally fragile." Given its shortcomings, they say they have played their part by raising the alarm, arguing their case, and proposing solutions. "Despite this, the majority has chosen to force it through, assuming sole political and historical responsibility for this text," they state.
