During the debates surrounding the bill to reform Article 319, MP Abdou Karim Sall expressed a nuanced position on the tightening of legislation concerning homosexuality. The former minister acknowledged that he was not entirely satisfied with the proposed provisions.
However, he believes that, for the time being, we must be content with the progress contained in the text under discussion.
According to him, this reform should be seen as a step. "It's a start," he argued, stressing that the bill should not be rejected, particularly in the name of religion or the country's values.
For Abdou Karim Sall, the essential thing is to adopt the measures currently on the table, while waiting for promises of further criminalization to possibly materialize in the future.
