While Senegal is beginning a refounding of its diplomacy on the basis of sovereignty and national strategic interests, an internal controversy is disrupting the dynamic initiated internationally by the Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye.
In a publication, Professor Lababa Faye, a member of the National Movement of Patriotic Executives (MONCAP), strongly protested against the media appearance of the Minister of Justice, Yassine Fall, which he described as a diversionary tactic orchestrated from Dakar, at a time when the President of the Republic was making an official visit to Kuwait.
According to the academic, this ill-timed media appearance came as the Head of State was finalizing major strategic partnerships in Kuwait City aimed at strengthening Senegal's economic sovereignty. Professor Faye considers this timing to be more than mere chance, suggesting an attempt to sow discord and undermine the diplomatic momentum of the new regime.
A diplomacy aligned with the popular mandate
According to the MONCAP member, President Diomaye Faye's message of gratitude to the Emir of Kuwait is fully aligned with the new doctrine of sovereign diplomacy stemming from the popular mandate of March 24th. Far from being a mere formality, this approach, in his view, reflects a deliberate desire to reposition Senegal on the international stage through strategic alliances.
"Securing the commitment of a strategic partner like Kuwait represents a significant step forward for the country's economic transformation," argues Professor Lababa Faye, who sees it as a strong signal for investors and a reason for hope for citizens.
Criticism of a media appearance deemed inappropriate
The Pastef executive particularly points to the responsibility of a member of the government, in this case the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, accused of having saturated the media space with sensitive legal cases during the President of the Republic's diplomatic mission abroad.
In Professor Faye's view, this public intervention constitutes an overreach of authority and a breach of the principle of republican discretion. He points out that legal proceedings fall under the jurisdiction of the Public Prosecutor, not the Minister of Justice, arguing that any untimely communication about ongoing cases undermines the coherence of government action.
Reminder of the areas of presidential sovereignty
In his analysis, the MONCAP member emphasizes the institutional foundations of the new regime, noting that certain ministries fall directly under presidential authority. He specifically cites National Defense, Justice, Foreign Affairs, the Interior, as well as the Economy and Planning for strategic coordination.
Professor Lababa Faye believes that any dissonance in these sensitive sectors can harm the international stature of the Head of State and fuel counterproductive internal controversies.
A call for consistency and vigilance
Mr. Faye emphasizes that the achievements obtained by President Diomaye Faye during his stay in Kuwait are historic and call for institutional communication commensurate with the challenges.
In the same vein, he warns against any attempt at internal sabotage that could hinder the march towards national sovereignty.
"The destiny of Senegal is now being played out on the world stage," he concluded, calling for citizen vigilance and loyalty to the popular mandate.
For Professor Faye, one thing is clear: "The project will not be diverted," he warns.
