Tivaouane change de main : Les défis du nouveau préfet Abou Sow
The handover ceremony between the outgoing prefect of the department of Tivaouane, Mamadou Guèye, and the new prefect, Abou Sow, was held this Monday, May 11, 2026, under the chairmanship of the governor of the Thiès region, Saër Ndao.
In his speech, the governor described the ceremony as "pure republican tradition", a symbol of the continuity of the State, the permanence of public service and the nobility of the administrative mission in service to citizens.
Paying tribute to the outgoing prefect, Saër Ndao praised nearly five years of commitment at the head of the Tivaouane department. According to him, Mamadou Guèye played a decisive role in conducting state affairs, supporting the population, and maintaining public order.
The governor also highlighted a systemic approach that has strengthened security, local dialogue, and social cohesion in the department. He praised an administrator who is close to the people and embodies the values of rigor, integrity, and dedication.
"As you leave this constituency today, you depart with a sense of duty fulfilled while leaving behind a legacy marked by the continuous pursuit of excellence," said Saër Ndao, before expressing his gratitude and appreciation for the services rendered to the Nation.
Addressing the new prefect, the governor welcomed him to this land of faith, history and culture, while highlighting the many challenges that await him.
Among the priorities mentioned are strengthening the security of the population, improving the quality of public service, combating cattle theft, monitoring the implementation of public policies, and combating irregular migration.
Saër Ndao said he was convinced that Abou Sow would be able to rely on the driving forces of the department, the territorial elected officials, the youth, the women, the administrative services and the defense and security forces to consolidate the gains and respond to the concerns of the people.
Speaking in turn, Abou Sow expressed his deep gratitude to the President of the Republic for the trust placed in him through this appointment to head this strategic and important department.
The new prefect of Tivaouane also thanked the Prime Minister, the Minister of the Interior and the entire government, while praising the work done by his predecessor.
"The outgoing prefect has set the bar very high. It is up to me to maintain it. This will be the guiding principle of my mission," he stated.
Abou Sow assured that he wanted to focus all his efforts on achieving the objectives set by the highest authorities, putting the concerns of the people at the forefront.
He finally stressed the need for a participatory approach, stating his desire to work closely with all the driving forces of the department in order to promote citizen participation in state initiatives.
