Arrêté avec 8 kg de ‘’yamba’’ : Karbala risque 5 ans ferme
Ousseynou Diallo, a mechanic by trade, alias "Karlala", was tried this Thursday before the Dakar criminal court for offering or transferring Indian hemp.
In custody since 2023, he was arrested with 8 kg of Indian hemp, after being followed.
In court, the defendant disputed the quantity of drugs seized and denied the charge of offering or supplying them. He stated that the police had arrested him with 10,000 FCFA worth of drugs, which he claimed was for his personal use.
However, according to the prosecution, Karbala had made detailed confessions during the preliminary investigation. He had even revealed the name of his supplier.
But he changed his tune during the investigation. The prosecutor requested a five-year prison sentence.
The defense, led by lawyer Alphonse Faye, asked the court to disqualify the charges of offering or transferring drugs initially and reclassify them as possession for personal use.
Attorney Faye also filed a request for provisional release for his client. However, the prosecution opposed this request, citing a lack of guarantee of appearance in court.
The court rejected the request before adjourning the case for deliberation until April 2nd.
