Ligue des champions : Jakobs et Galatasaray corrigent l’Ajax, Pape Guèye et Villarreal tombent en Chypre
The fourth matchday of the Champions League was a very successful one for Senegalese players, particularly Ismail Jakobs. The Senegalese international defender and Galatasaray secured a 3-0 victory in Amsterdam against Ajax.
On the road in Cyprus, Villarreal and Pape Gueye were surprised by Pafos (1-0). Starting the match, the Senegalese midfielder could do nothing to prevent his team's defeat. This is the first victory for a Cypriot club in the Champions League.
In the evening's big match, Manchester City, led by the ever-clinchy Phil Foden, dominated Dortmund (4-1). The English striker scored twice (22nd and 57th minutes).
At the Vélodrome, Marseille were surprised by Atalanta (0-1). At home, Inter Milan avoided an upset against Kairat Almaty with a victory (2-1).
On the road in Belgium, FC Barcelona had a difficult evening. The Catalans were held to a 3-3 draw by Club Brugge, a frustrating result for Barça, who were once again shaky in defense.
At the Estádio da Luz, Leverkusen pulled off a stunning upset by defeating José Mourinho's Benfica (1-0). At home, Qarabag held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw.
At St. James' Park, Newcastle secured a crucial victory against Athletic Bilbao (2-0). After this fourth matchday, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Inter Milan sit atop the table with 12 points each.
