Touba Toul : les vendeurs de moutons préoccupés par la rareté des acheteurs
With Tabaski just days away, sheep sellers at the Touba Toul livestock market are expressing their concern about the low turnout of buyers. Despite a well-supplied market, breeders are still struggling to sell their animals.
The president of the National Council of Livestock Breeders of Senegal, Ismaïla Sow, shared this concern during a visit by state authorities who came to inquire about the progress of the Tabaski operation at the site. According to him, the main problem is not a lack of sheep, but rather the scarcity of customers five days before the festival.
"The market is well supplied with sheep, but buyers are still slow to come," he lamented, highlighting the difficulties faced by sellers in making sales.
Faced with this situation, Ismaïla Sow invited people to buy their sheep earlier, instead of waiting until the day before or the day of Tabaski, in order to avoid last-minute rushes and to allow breeders to gradually sell their animals.
The head of the livestock farmers nevertheless welcomed the efforts made by the State in the context of the organization of the Tabaski 2026 operation, in particular the measures taken to ensure a good supply of markets and better sales conditions across the country.
