Présidentielle Côte d’Ivoire : Le dossier de candidature de Tidjane Thiam déposé à la commission électorale
Having been removed from the electoral roll, Tidjane Thiam has not given up on his presidential dream. Officials from his party, the PDCI-RDA, submitted his candidacy to the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) yesterday, Sunday, August 24. "We have just submitted President Tidjane Thiam's candidacy for the presidential election of October 25, 2025. A candidacy that brings hope," declared the head of the PDCI-RDA delegation, Alain Cocauthey.
“History will remember that you were at the heart of this initiative.”
Upon receiving the application, the permanent secretary of the CEI, Kouamé Adjoumani Pierre, recalled the constituent documents required by electoral law. The institution's spokesperson, Émile Ebrotié, then indicated that the application was complete, thus paving the way for the official registration of the former Credit Suisse boss's candidacy.
A satisfied Alain Cocauthey expressed his party's gratitude to the CEI. "History will remember that you were at the heart of this initiative," he told them. According to the TV5 Monde correspondent, Tidjane Thiam's nationality certificate has been submitted to the CEI.
The CEI has the final say
It should be remembered that his removal from the electoral roll was linked to a case of dual nationality. He was accused of not having renounced his French nationality early enough. In this West African country, presidential candidates must be exclusively Ivorian. The CEI will rule on the admissibility of Mr. Thiam's application in the coming days, following the decision of the Constitutional Council.
