Belgique : Une femme voilée brutalement interpellée par des passants, ce qui s’est passé
A video showing a woman wearing a niqab being brutally accosted by passersby in Antwerp has been circulating on social media for several days. What exactly happened?
These images date from July 20th, but have only been circulating on social media for a few days. What do we see? A woman wearing a full-face veil is surrounded by several men and violently arrested on the Meir, Antwerp's busiest shopping street.
The images, widely shared on social media, sparked strong reactions and were subject to numerous interpretations. Some internet users claimed that the woman in question had been attacked by passersby for showing her arms, for religious reasons.
According to the Antwerp police, interviewed by our colleagues at Het Laatste Nieuws, this was in no way an "attempt to impose Sharia law," as some comments have suggested. Moments earlier, the woman had allegedly committed a shoplifting incident. She was first stopped by a security guard at the checkout, before struggling, hitting and scratching the officer.
Two employees from another store then attempted to arrest her. The woman then took scissors from her handbag, injuring one of the employees' hand. She fled, but was quickly caught by passersby at the Meir-Wapper intersection. The police intervened and arrested her. The suspect was brought before the investigating judge and is already known to the courts for previous thefts.

Peut-être qu’elle n’est même pas musulmane. Dans ces pays il y a souvent des hommes qui portent le voile intégral pour aller voler ou braquer une banque pensant tromper la vigilance des gens. Parce que les femmes voilées ne volent pas en général et sont pudiques et innocentes.
Même un bout de tissu est instrumentalisé.
