Two years in power - Guy Marius Sagna: "The executive branch has accomplished a great deal"

MP Guy Marius Sagna revisited the management of the first two years of governance by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.

Invited to the program "En vérité" on Radio Sénégal Internationale (RSI), the elected official highlighted the progress made in reforms, particularly in matters of sovereignty and public management, while calling for continued efforts to go further.

Asked what he remembers from these two years, Guy Marius Sagna highlighted an executive power which, according to him, "has accomplished a great deal" and has had "the political courage to tell the truth to its people and its partners".

According to him, government action is particularly distinguished by a clear desire to strengthen national sovereignty, especially on issues related to debt and the foreign military presence.

The parliamentarian also indicated the measures taken to rationalize state spending, including the abolition of the High Council of Territorial Authorities (HCCT) and the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), as well as the announcement of the abolition of 19 entities in the parapublic sector.

According to him, efforts in regulating the prices of basic necessities such as sugar, milk, rice, electricity, gas, cement or iron, contributing to a reduction in the cost of living for the population, are also to be commended.

Recalling the difficult context in which the current executive arrived, he considers these actions taken to be "borderline extraordinary".

However, Guy Maruis Sagna stressed the challenges to be met, including structural issues such as monetary sovereignty with the CFA franc, and the promotion of national languages as working languages in the administration.

The parliamentarian also called on the State to continue efforts to rationalize the State's lifestyle, insisting on the need for better regulation of "political funds", "secret funds" and "slush funds", in order to strengthen exemplary public management.
