"Une trahison" : Seydi Gassama avertit Diomaye Faye contre un éventuel soutien à Macky Sall à l'ONU
The executive director of Amnesty International Senegal, Seydi Gassama, warned the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, against a possible support from Senegal for the candidacy of former Head of State, Macky Sall, for the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN).
In a message posted on the social network X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Gassama believes that such support would constitute, in his opinion, "a betrayal of the memory of more than 65 Senegalese killed under the regime of Macky Sall," specifically mentioning "the four people killed following the decision to postpone the presidential election of February 2024."
"Without the sacrifice of these young Senegalese, whose families are still waiting for justice to be served, you would never have become President of the Republic," wrote the Executive Director of the Senegalese section of Amnesty International to the Head of State.
The human rights advocate also called on the member states of the African Union, recalling that "peace and security, development and human rights constitute the three pillars of the United Nations."
It should also be noted that at this stage, no official reaction from the Senegalese authorities has been recorded regarding a possible candidacy of former President Macky Sall to head the UN.
