CAN féminine 2026 : Le Sénégal hérite d’un groupe relevé, mais accessible
The draw for the 14th edition of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026, was held this Thursday. Following the ceremony, Senegal was placed in Group A alongside host country Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya.
The first edition of the competition to bring together 16 nations, this Women's AFCON is also a qualifier for the next World Cup, which increases the stakes of each match.
Having qualified less than three months ago after a victory snatched on penalties against Ivory Coast, the Lionesses were eagerly awaiting to find out who their opponents would be for the group stage.
Surprisingly placed in Pot 3 by CAF, alongside Mali, Egypt, and Burkina Faso, Mame Moussa Cissé's players will once again have to face Morocco. This duel is becoming almost routine, as the two teams already met in the group stage of the 2022 and 2024 Africa Cup of Nations. On both occasions, the Senegalese women lost by the narrowest of margins (1-0).
Facing Algeria and Kenya, the Lionesses will also have a tough challenge, but the draw remains generally favorable. With a improving squad and positive momentum since the qualifiers, Senegal harbors high ambitions for the 2026 edition.
The objective is clear: to take the next step and reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time. A challenge worthy of the hopes raised by this generation, determined to write a new chapter in the history of Senegalese women's football.
